These are some of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) that will help you choose the New River Dixielanders for your next event. If you have any additional questions then please do get in touch.

What are your basic technical requirements?

Power for small vocal amp preferred but not essential.


Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We do not usually need lighting or sound equipment however we can provide our own lighting and sound equipment if required.


What information do you require about a venue?

For outdoor performances we need to know, in advance, whether a covered performance area is provided or not. We can supply a gazebo if necessary.

Please let us know if the venue has any public liability insurance or PAT test requirements for performers.


Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

If we are using our own PA equipment then we would be happy to provide appropriate incidental music between sets.


What is the best gig you’ve ever done and the best venue you’ve ever played at?

Many of our band members served in military bands at the King’s coronation, Royal Weddings and Trouping the Colour.


Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist?

The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band, Joseph James (aka JJ aka Zep) Meissner, Louis Armstrong, Kenny Ball and many more.


What’s your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We are professional musicians that have been performing together at events across the UK since 2017. We originally formed for a fellow musician’s wedding reception and enjoyed it so much that we decided to take the band on the road.


What’s your favourite type of event to play at?

Dixieland Jazz has an infectious and uplifting rhythm that has never failed to get people dancing, so anywhere where we can interact with the audience and with room to dance.


How many musicians in the band?

We’re a five piece band with the option to add additional players for a bigger sound.


What are your typical setup and performance times?

Arrival: 60 minutes before the performance
Set up / pack down: 30 minutes


Are you happy to perform outside?

We regularly perform at fates, fairs and other outdoor events across the UK.


Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We’ll try our best to meet all your requests and requirements. If you want something specific then best let us know in advance.


How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

We get great reviews and comments. Lively, fun, uplifting, just wanted to dance. Our regular clients would agree that we’re reliable, professional and great value for money.


Do you charge travel and/or subsistence?

Where necessary, our travel and subsistence (meals & accommodation) charges are itemised in our quote. We aim to reduce these costs and our environmental impact whenever possible by car sharing and/or the use of public transport.
